'Public authority' means a body that has authority to prepare and/or take administrative decisions pursuant to the provisions of the Public Administration Act. Foreign public authorities and private enterprises are generally considered to be private applicants.
Get access to information
If the condition concerning a justifiable need is met, the following information in the National Registry may be disclosed concerning a person:
- Full name (also name history)
- Date of birth and personal ID number (these collectively make up the national ID number)
- Place of birth
- Residential address/postal address (street, road, postal code, place, municipality number, municipality of residence, land number, title number, address history)• Parents
- Children
- Spouse/registered partner
- Marital status (also marital status history)
- Registration status (resident, emigrated, deceased)
- Date of death where applicable
Information subject to a duty of confidentiality
Some information in the National Registry is subject to a duty of confidentiality. Such information may only be disclosed to public authorities that are authorised by law to obtain information notwithstanding a statutory duty of confidentiality. The legal basis must be stated when submitting an application for confidential information. This concerns among others: citizenship, residence permits, guardianship.
