The general rule is that you must travel home at least every six weeks in order to be classified as a commuter. However, if you have a valid reason, you may still be a commuter.

A valid reason to not travel home may, for example, be…

  • … that you are not well enough to travel home. You must have a medical certificate stating that you cannot travel home
  • ... special work reasons, for example compulsory courses
  • ... that your income is so low that you cannot afford to travel home so frequently

A long distance to travel is by itself not a sufficient reason to travel home less frequently.

You must explain why you cannot travel home at least every six weeks, on average, in post 5.0. You do not need to send us documentation of this, but you must be able to present documentation if we ask for it.
