When should I amend my tax deduction card?

Have you purchased a house and taken on a lot of debt, or changed jobs and are earning a higher salary? If so, it is a good idea to amend your tax deduction card so that your tax deductions are correct.

Reasons for amending your tax deduction card:

  • If the details on your tax deduction card are not correct
  • If you begin working 
  • If the journey between your home and place of work lengthens or shortens
  • if you have become disabled
  • If you have become a pensioner during the last year 
  • If you have begun drawing full or partial old-age pension
  • If you change your retirement percentage
  • If you have begun drawing AFP
  • If you have left a salaried position and are only receiving a pension
  • If your pension changes from disability pension to old-age pension
  • If your pension changes from surviving spouse's pension to old-age pension
  • If there is a change in your other taxable National Insurance benefits
  • If you have become a widow or widower
  • If your child has started in day care
  • If you have purchased a house or car and taken out a loan
  • If your interest expenses change
  • If you have a become a single parent
  • On cessation of transitional benefit
