E-invoices for tax payment

  • Print

All taxpayers, both private individuals and businesses, can now enter into an agreement concerning e-invoices in connection with tax payments.

E-invoices mean that a precompleted invoice from the Norwegian Tax Administration will be sent directly to you as a private individual via your online bank instead of in the post or via Altinn.

If you are a business, you can enter into an e-invoice agreement with us by registering in the public invoice register ELMA. You will then receive invoices from the Norwegian Tax Administration directly in your own accounting system.

An e-invoice agreement with the Norwegian Tax Administration will provisionally apply to tax payments.

How do I set up an agreement for e-invoices?

For private individuals

The next time you pay tax, most online banks will ask you whether you wish to set up an e-invoice agreement with the Norwegian Tax Administration. If you accept this offer, an agreement will be set up, and you will receive your next invoice precompleted from the Norwegian Tax Administration via your online bank.

If you have to pay underpaid tax and the amount concerned is split between two invoices, you will be given the option of entering into an agreement when you pay the first invoice, but the agreement will not be activated until both invoices have been paid.

You can create an e-invoice agreement with us, even if you do not have to pay tax.

Log in to your online bank, select e-invoices in the menu. Find Skatteetaten (Tax Administration) as a provider. Your e-invoice reference, when you set up the agreement, will be the first 11 digits of the KID number which is shown on your tax return. E-invoices are described in detail and are easy to find using the various online banking services.

Note that you can only enter into an e-invoice agreement on behalf of yourself. You can still pay tax for someone else (such as your spouse), but you cannot set up an e-invoice agreement.

For businesses

Businesses and enterprises must register in the public invoice register ELMA in order to be able to receive e-invoices from the Norwegian Tax Administration. By being affiliated to ELMA, you will automatically receive invoices for tax payments in your accounting system. The Agency for Public Management and eGovernment (Difi) has more information about the public invoice register ELMA. They also have an up-to-date overview of registered enterprises.

What are the benefits of using e-invoices?

  • Using e-invoices is simple and efficient.
  • You do not need to enter your KID number or any other invoice information, as your e-invoice will be precompleted.
  • You will have a better overview and more control over your payments.
  • E-invoices are saved by your online bank, and you can determine when and from which account the invoice is paid.
  • You can make payments from anywhere.
  • Businesses that are registered with ELMA will find their entire payment history in their accounting system.
  • Environmentally friendly alternative
