Temporarily staying in Norway

If you are temporarily staying in Norway, you can use a foreign-registered vehicle for up to two years.

Up to one year

If you intend staying in Norway for up to one year, you can use a foreign-registered vehicle without applying for a driving permit. You must be able to document that your stay will not exceed one year from your arrival in Norway.

Your arrival to Norway is the date you arrived, not the vehicle.

Up to two years

If you intend staying in Norway for up to two years, you must apply for a temporary driving permit for the second year. You must document that the stay will not last more than two years from your date of arrival.

You must submit an application form within one year after arriving in Norway.

In order for your stay to be considered temporary, you must not have stayed in Norway or been registered in the National Registry for more than 365 days during the two years before you arrived in Norway.
