If you have imported a vehicle which is to be used as an ordinary taxi, you must pay a reduced one-off registration tax.

You only pay the one-off registration tax once, when you first register the vehicle in Norway.

If you wish to import a vehicle which is to be used as a taxi, you must contact the Norwegian Public Roads Administration in order to obtain approval. After the vehicle has been approved, you will have to pay the one-off registration tax and the scrap deposit tax. You can pay the tax online either via the payment service for the one-off registration tax or via your online banking service. The vehicle can now be registered with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

If the enterprise has credit for the one-off registration tax, you can go straight to the desk at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration's offices.

When you register a vehicle as a taxi, you must attach the following documentation:

  • Ordinary taxi licence
  • Registration document (NA-0221 - you will have received a copy of this document when you cleared the vehicle through customs)
  • COC for type approval (new vehicles only)

Do you no longer intend to use the vehicle as a taxi?

The reduction only applies if the vehicle is used as a taxi for at least three years. If you stop using the vehicle before the three-year period has elapsed, you must apply to the Norwegian Tax Administration and pay the outstanding one-off registration tax. Your application must state the reason why you will no longer be using the vehicle as a taxi and the last date it will be used as a taxi. You must attach the following documentation:

  • Ordinary taxi licence
  • Vehicle registration document
  • Driving license

If the vehicle is to be used as a replacement vehicle, you will not be entitled to any reduction in the one-off registration tax. In this case, you must also inform the Norwegian Tax Administration.

Have you handed in your taxi licence?

If you do this within a period of three years. you must notify the Norwegian Tax Administration and pay the outstanding tax that is due.
If the vehicle is no longer being used as a taxi by this date, you must also go to a driver and vehicle licensing office (trafikkstasjon) to change the status of the vehicle to a car in tax group A.

Transfer a vehicle used as a taxi to another taxi licence

If you want to transfer the vehicle used as taxi to another taxi licence, you must apply to the Norwegian Tax Administration. You must attach the following documentation:

  • Ordinary taxi licences for the old and new owners
  • Vehicle registration document
  • Driving licences for the old and new owners

Value added tax

If you sell the vehicle within four years, or you no longer intend using it as a taxi, you must also repay the value added tax that is outstanding.
