Confirmation of residence under a tax treaty

A confirmation of residence for tax purposes (Certificate of Residence) can either confirm residency according to Norwegian national law or according to a tax treaty.

If you need confirmation that the company is resident for tax purposes, you must either send an enquiry by:

Skatteetaten
Postboks 9200 - Grønland
0134 OSLO

The request must include:

  • name and organisation number
  • whether you need a confirmation according to Norwegian national law or according to the tax convention
  • the country in which the confirmation will be used
  • the income period that the confirmation should cover, if not the date of issue
  • contact information - e-mail address and/or telephone
  • what the confirmation will be used for
  • information about who the current partners are if you apply on behalf of a business assessed as a partnership (DA, ANS, KS)

Important information when you order a certificate of residence

The certificate will be sent by post to the address you’re registered with in the National Population Register. You will not get a certificate sent via e-mail or over the counter at a tax office.

The order for a certificate of residence takes 4 to 6 weeks to process. You must also allow for postal delivery time.

If you need an apostille on the certificate, you must contact the County Governor to arrange this. Read more about apostille and legalisation.
