Important information for ordering certificates or printouts
For most certificates, you must log in Altinn to order them.
Due to the coronavirus situation, our capacity to issue certificates requiring stamps and signatures will be limited
Please only order the certificate if it is strictly necessary. Unfortunately, we cannot provide an estimated delivery time. The delivery time will be longer than stated for the various certificates.
The certificates will be sent to the address registered for you in the National Population Register or to Altinn. You will not receive certificates by e-mail or by going to the tax office.
The processing time is 3 days after receiving the request for most certificates. One exception is the residence certificate, which has a processing time of 3-4 weeks. You must also allow for postal delivery time.
When ordering a passport
You do not need birth certificates to order passport for children and young people. See the police’s website for passports for children under 18.
Printouts are issued with and without a stamp and signature
The following printouts are issued without a stamp and signature.
- Notification of a registered address move
- Immigration receipt
- Confirmation of assigned D number
- Confirmation of registered parental responsibility
- Confirmation of name change
- Confirmation of birth and name choice (sent automatically to your inbox in Altinn or by post to your registered address, when name choice is registered).
Other printouts are issued with a stamp and signature.
Using the certificate abroad
If the certificate is to be used abroad, you must send it to the County Governor to apply an apostille or The Ministry of Foreign Affairs who legalises certificates. You must include information about which country you need to use the certificate in. Certificates that are to be used in Nordic countries do not need apostille or legalisation. Read more about apostille and legalisation.
