How to enter in your tax return – letting your entire home

Here we describe how to enter rental income/deductions related to the letting in the tax return for letting of your home on condition that the letting period last at least 30 days.

About tax rules for short-term letting (letting for less than 30 days).

When rental income is less than NOK 20,000

If you let out your entire home and the rental income is NOK 20,000 or less per year, the income is tax-free.

Tax-free income isn't entered in the tax return, nor are you entitled to allowances for costs incurred in connection with the letting.

When rental income exceeds NOK 20,000

If the rental income exceeds NOK 20,000, the entire rental income is tax liable. Tax liable rental income and associated allowances must be entered in the tax return.

It's the profit/deficit (net amount) that is taxed and that any allowances are made against.
