Access other people’s tax affairs

You can gain access to other people’s tax affairs so that you can help them with, among other things, the tax deduction card, tax return and tax assessment.

When the person can grant access themselves

The people you are going to help with their taxes can give you access themselves. This applies both when you as a private individual should have access or when you as an accountant, auditor or adviser need access to your clients’ tax affairs.

They do this by logging in and delegating access to their tax affairs. The method varies depending on whether you’re a private individual or professional adviser.

You can ask them to follow these steps:

This is how you give others access to your tax affairs

When the person cannot grant access themselves

In some cases, the person you're helping cannot grant access themselves, for example, because they do not have electronic IDs or are unable to do it themselves.

What you need to do depends on whether or not you need to provide a written power of attorney.

Select the option that applies to you:

Professional parties who can represent clients without submitting a written power of attorney can submit a personal declaration to gain access to their clients’ tax affairs.

This generally applies to lawyers, auditors, and authorised accountants.

You must attach a written power of attorney from the person who you're applying to gain access for, as well as a copy of their valid proof of identification.

If you're a guardian for the tax category, you will automatically gain access to the person’s tax affairs. You can choose to represent the person you're a guardian for when you log in to My tax.

You do not need to submit documentation to the Tax Administration. The Norwegian Civil Affairs Authority will transfer the necessary information to the Tax Administration.

If you need access to the ward’s tax affairs and are missing the tax category, you must submit the form Endring i digital vergefullmakt (Changes to online power of attorney, in Norwegian only).

If you have a future power of attorney, you have to contact us to be sent the tax return or tax assessment notice.
