About the collection authorities
Today, the Tax Administration’s collection authority is spread over three different branches: the Norwegian National Collection Agency (SI), the Collection Agency for Child Support and Overpaid Benefits, and the collection of tax and duty claims. As of 1 January 2026, these will be merged and named the Collection Authority.
The Collection Authority in the Tax Administration will collect taxes and duties, as well as money on behalf of other parties such as the police, the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen), the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration (Nav), and a number of personal maintenance recipients. This means that the Collection Authority can collect, for example, fines, compensation, enforcement fines, student loans, child support and incorrectly paid benefits from Nav.
The Collection Authority will also be responsible for funds management in connection with deductions from income. This also applies when the deduction follows a decision from the execution and enforcement commissioner.
New regulations as of 1 January 2026
As of 1 January 2026, new collection regulations will come into force. At the same time, the Norwegian National Collection Agency (SI), the Collection Agency for Child Support and Overpaid Benefits, and the collection of tax and duty claims in the Tax Administration will be merged into one collection authority.
The new Collection Act makes it possible, among other things, to gather claims from both public and private creditors in a single, coordinated attachment of earnings in connection with enforcement proceedings. In the event of a payment of one deduction that is intended to cover several claims from different creditors, it is the Collection Authority that distributes the payment to the creditors.
A programme for simplified collections
The digitalisation project the Future of Public Collection (in Norwegian only) and the new Collection Act from 2026 will make collections easier and more effective for citizens, businesses, and central and local government.
This means, among other things, new systems and services both for those who must pay a claim and for those who collect it.
There will be a gradual transition from the old to the new systems and services until 2029.
How to pay
The invoice you receive will have information on how to make payments.
You’ll also find payment information at skatteetaten.no. Please note that there are different bank account numbers for making payments to the Tax Administration. The type of claim you’ve received decides which account number you must make your payment to.
Questions about claims and collections
If you have any questions about why and how the claim that you’ve received originated, you must contact the body that made the claim, for example, the police, the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen), the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, or Nav.
If you have a question about the actual collection process or the payment of the claims, you can contact us. The easiest way is to use the contact information on the invoice or in the letter you've received from us.
