Important information
  • It is doctors who report deaths in Norway to the National Population Register. You do not need to register anything yourself. 
  • You can apply to NAV for financial help with the funeral. 
  • You must obtain an overview of the deceased’s finances and decide if you want to take over the estate. 
  • When you have taken over the estate, you assume the responsibility for the deceased’s tax return and tax assessment. 
  • If you are a spouse or heir, your own taxes may be affected by receiving an inheritance.
