Child maintenance when the child is over 18
When your child turns 18, the remaining child maintenance payments go directly to the child and not through you. If the child is in upper secondary school and is over 18, they may apply for continued child maintenance.
Child maintenance usually lasts through the month the child turns 18. If you have not received the full child maintenance payment when your child turns 18, we’ll continue to collect payments from the person liable to pay maintenance.
Power of attorney when the child has turned 18
When the child has turned 18, the child is a party to the case in their own right, and you as a previous maintenance recipient will no longer have access to the case. If the child wants your assistance, they can provide you with a power of attorney.
Child maintenance for children in upper secondary school
Children over 18 who attend upper secondary school may be entitled to apply for maintenance at Nav.
