Disability benefit – deductions from future payments
If you’ve received more disability benefit than you’re entitled to, you must repay the amount that was overpaid. If you do not pay this amount, we may deduct the amount from your future benefits.
Does this apply to me?
This applies to you if you’ve received a notice stating that a settlement has been carried out for your disability benefit, and it shows that you’ve been overpaid.
When you’ve received a settlement
If you receive disability benefit and a settlement has been carried out, you’ll first receive a letter about this from Nav. After that, you’ll receive an invoice from us with information about how to make the payment. If you pay the full amount by the deadline, you avoid us starting a deduction from your benefit (offsetting).
We’re not able to enter into a payment agreement.
If you have questions about the settlement decision, you must contact Nav.
If you do not pay the full amount, we’ll deduct it from your benefit
If you do not pay the full amount and you still receive a benefit, we’ll start offsetting. This means that we deduct what you owe from your ongoing benefit payments. You’ll then receive less in future payments.
Before we start the offsetting, we’ll review your financial situation. We can deduct up to ten percent of your benefit until the full amount has been repaid. You can choose for us to deduct more than ten percent if you prefer to repay the amount more quickly.
You have the right to appeal
You can appeal if you believe the deduction is too high. You must include supporting documents proving that you do not have enough to cover your cost of living expenses.
Appeal against offsetting (RF-1377)
The deductions will continue as before until we’ve processed your case.
