Providing information about work and stays in Norway

In order for you to pay the correct tax to Norway, you must ensure that we have the correct information about how much you work and stay in Norway.

Does this apply to me?

If you're a foreign worker on a temporary stay in Norway, you must provide information about how often and for how long you work or stay in Norway.

What you need to do

For us to calculate the correct tax, you must provide us with information about when you work or stay in Norway.

If you do not know when your assignment ends or when you'll leave Norway, you can enter a provisional date and change it later.

To report work or stays online, you’ll need an electronic ID. If you do not have an electronic ID, you can order one. You must have a Norwegian identification number (national identity number or D number).

Submit on paper

You can send us the information on paper. In the letter, you must state the following:

  • who it concerns (name and national identity number)
  • which periods you worked or stayed in Norway

Send the letter to

Skatteetaten
Postboks 9200
0134 Oslo

You must add or change any information that’s missing or incorrect

You're responsible for keeping the information up to date. If we're missing or have incorrect information, the tax may be incorrect.

You must check that:

  • all the dates are correct
  • all work periods or stays are registered

Tax liability to Norway

How many days you work and stay in Norway affects how much tax you have to pay to Norway.

You either have a limited tax liability or a global tax liability

A limited tax liability means that you only have to pay tax on income and wealth that you earn and own in Norway.

A global tax liability means that you must pay tax on all income and wealth you have both in Norway and the rest of the world.

You become liable for global tax when you stay in Norway for more than 183 days in a twelve-month period or more than 270 days in a 36-month period.
