Reporting a move to, from or within Svalbard
If you’re planning to live on Svalbard for more than 6 months, you must report the move to the Population Register of Svalbard. You must also report moving when you’re moving within Svalbard, and when you’re moving from Svalbard.
Send the change of address notification via write to us.
You can also report moving to Svalbard by post to:
Svalbard skattekontor
Postboks 413
9171 Longyearbyen
If you report the move to Svalbard by post, you must also enclose a copy of your valid proof of identity.
If you’re reporting a move from the Norwegian mainland to Svalbard, you’ll still be registered at your residential address in the National Population Register. Your new address on Svalbard will be registered as your present address.
If you’re staying on Svalbard for less than 6 months, you do not report a move. In that case you can register a postal address on Svalbard.
If you’re moving from abroad and have no Norwegian national identity number or a temporary identification number (D number), you must book an appointment with the Tax Administration on Svalbard to apply for a D number.
If you have other questions concerning your move, contact the Svalbard tax office.
