The deduction is too high

If we’ve started enforcement proceedings and you believe the deduction from your income is too high, you can apply to have it changed or stopped.

Once we’ve received your application, we’ll reassess the deduction amount. If we find that the deduction is too high, we’ll notify your employer or Nav that they must reduce the deduction. They cannot change the deduction until we’ve told them to do so.

Important information

Please note that if we grant your application for reduced deductions, your payment period will be extended.

Any interest on overdue payment that is added to your claim may also extend your payment period.

Apply to change deductions

You can also submit your application on paper. You must explain why you believe the deduction is too high. Sign your application.

Information in the application

When we process your application, we'll only consider the information for which you've provided proof. This means you should attach supporting documents showing that the information you provide is correct.

Examples of information that may be important to prove:

  • whether your income has decreased
  • any new expenses that we may take into consideration and that are not already registered
  • an increase in your existing expenses, for example, your rent
  • a change to your marital status, resulting in your having to pay all the expenses on your own
  • whether you are supporting your spouse/cohabiting partner

You do not have to provide proof of cost of living expenses.

You should have money left to cover the necessary cost of living expenses

If our calculation shows that you do not have enough money left to cover necessary cost of living expenses, we will not make deductions from your income. If interest on overdue payment is added to your claim, the size of your claim will increase. When your financial situation improves, we’ll start making deductions again.

You will not get a refund

If your application for a reduced deduction is granted, but the deduction from your salary has already been made, we've used the money you've already been deducted to pay your unpaid claim.
