Payment agreement for temporarily transferred student loans
If you have a student loan that has been temporarily transferred to us, it's important that you pay the defaulted amount as soon as you can. If this is not possible, you can contact us to request payment in instalments.
If you do not follow the payment plan with the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen), the entire student loan will be temporarily transferred to us. When your student loan has been temporarily transferred to us, the rights and agreements you have with Lånekassen still remain.
Avoid having your student loan permanently transferred
If you make no payments and do not apply for payment relief for three years, your loan will be permanently transferred to us. You’ll then lose the rights and agreements you have with Lånekassen.
If you do not pay, or if you pay in instalments, we'll enforce collection of the student loan.
Paying in instalments
You must contact us if you want to pay in instalments.
Cancelling interest or deferring payment
You must contact Lånekassen to find out what your rights are. You can apply for a payment deferral and for interest to be deleted. In many cases, you'll be able to transfer the loan back to Lånekassen and avoid incurring new interest on overdue payments.
Any interest on overdue payments and reminder fees that have already been added to your loan will not be cancelled even if you defer the bill. Instead, they’ll be added to the next payment.
Your loan is transferred back to Lånekassen when you pay
Your student loan will be transferred back to Lånekassen when you pay the full defaulted amount stated in the letter we sent you. If the payment deadline for the claim has passed, you must contact us to find out what the updated and correct amount is.
It’s more profitable for you to have the student loan transferred back to Lånekassen. You can then follow the original payment plan without additional interest on overdue payment being calculated on the full loan. You'll also keep your rights to, for example, payment deferral and cancellation of interest in Lånekassen.
