Registration obligation

Employers or clients are obliged to register in the Register of Employers and Employees (NAV AA register). This in principle also applies to private employers. Exceptions have however been made for the following:

  • private employers who make salary payments for the care of children under 12 years of age and older children who have special care needs
  • private employers who make salary payments for work in the home or holiday home that do not exceed NOK 60,000.

Private employers that are not exempted by the above exceptions are obliged to register in the Register of Employers and Employees (AA register). Registration can be by submitting an a-melding. An a-melding can also be used to report when an employee ceases to be employed by an employer.

A private employer must use their national identity number instead of an organisation number.
