Order a printout from the National Population Register
The printout contains information about your marital status and citizenship, among other things. It does not contain information about your parents or children.
How you receive the printout
Printouts from the National Population Register are sent digitally. You can also order it on paper with a stamp and signature. The printouts on paper will be sent to the address registered for you in the National Population Register. Please note that the processing time can be up to two weeks plus postal delivery time before you receive the certificate. You can receive the documentation in Norwegian or English.
You can receive a printout from the National Population Register if you are registered as a resident in a Norwegian municipality, or if you are registered as emigrated. You can also receive a printout from the National Population Register if you have a D number.
You can order a printout from the National Population Register for:
- Yourself
- Your children who are under 18 (if you have parental responsibility)
- Anyone for whom you’ve been appointed guardian
- A client for whom you’re acting as counsel (as a lawyer)
The printout may contain information concerning the following:
- name
- date of birth
- National identity number/D number
- gender
- citizenship
- place of birth/country of birth
- personal status
- registered addresses
- marital status (unmarried, married, separated, divorced, widow, widower)
- name and date of birth of spouse
You must select the option indicating that you want to use the printout abroad when you order it. You then get the printout on paper with a stamp and signature.
You must send it to the district court for notarial confirmation before you send it to the County Governor for an apostille or to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to get it legalised. You must include information about which country you are going to use the confirmation in. Certificates and confirmations that will be used in Nordic countries do not need apostille or legalisation.
