Exemption card or tax deduction card?
Order an exemption card if you expect to earn less than NOK 55,000. Remeber that if you had an exemption card last year, you do not need to apply for a new card. If you have several employers, you must divide your exemption card between them.
Order a tax deduction card if you expect to earn more than NOK 55,000. If you earn more than NO 55,000 in 2017, the whole amount will be taxable. If you order an exemption card, but earn more than NOK 55,000, you risk a high tax rate when you order a tax deduction card for the first NOK 55,000 you earn.
If you have other income in addition to your ordinary salary, such as interest on bank deposits, you may have to pay the tax yourself if your salary is under NOK 55,000. You can find out whether or not you need to pay tax by using our tax calculator. If the calculated tax amounts to NOK 100 or more, you need to order a tax deduction card.
If you have an exemption card and receive benefits from NAV, you need to inform NAV that they should use your exemption card.
