Wage seniority
Date of wage seniority for employees of government and local authorities that are covered by the Main tariff agreement.
Brief information concerning wage seniority
State the date from which wage seniority is calculated.
Wage seniority is a term in collective agreement law which is used in connection with the determination of employees’ wages. In connection with the determination of wage seniority, an employee can be credited with previous relevant professional experience, education and non-formal competence.
Wage seniority differs from seniority, which simply indicates how long an employee has been working. Different collective agreements have different rules for the approval and calculation of wage seniority. In the national tariff area, wage seniority is referred to as service seniority + additional seniority.
Example
Julie started work in Municipality A on 1 May and was credited with wage seniority from 1 January due to a previous job in Municipality B. Municipality A then states wage seniority as being 1 January.
Is the information mandatory
Yes, you must state the date for all ordinary and maritime employment with enterprises which follow the Main Tariff Agreement for the government, the municipalities (including the City of Oslo) and most enterprises in the finance sector.
It is voluntary for freelancers, contractors and fee recipients.
You should not specify wage seniority for pensions or other non-employment benefits.
When you must submit reports
State the wage seniority the first time you report the employment and repeat it every month up to and including the month in which you terminate the employment.
Correcting errors
If you have forgotten to state wage seniority or stated the wrong wage seniority, you can correct this in the next a-melding. You do not need to correct previously submitted a-meldings.
What do we use the information for
Statistics Norway (SSB) uses the information in statistics for wage negotiations and in analyses of wage trends for different groups of employees.
