Statement by the sponsor

If you are chosen to be a sponsor, you must fill in the statement by the sponsor.

The statement by the sponsor is part of the application for a marriage licence or certificate of no impediment to marriage. You’ll find information about the necessary forms and supporting documents that must be submitted here: Marriage.

The couple getting married cannot act as each other’s sponsors. The sponsors must be at least 18 years old. The person filling in the statement by the sponsor does not have to be the same person who witnesses the actual ceremony.

If you want to submit the statement by the sponsor on paper, here’s what you do:

  1. Download and complete the form Statement by the sponsor ("forlovererklæring").
  2. Give the completed and signed statement form to the couple getting married so they can attach the statement by the sponsor totheir application when they submit it.
