Deduction for the use of your own car for business purposes when you drive up to 6,000 kilometres

If you drive your car less than 6,000 kilometres for business purposes, it’s considered a private vehicle. You can claim a deduction of NOK 3.50 per kilometre you’ve driven the car for business purposes.

What you must document

You must document the business travel by keeping a logbook stating the date, route (from-to), what you used the car for, and the number of kilometres per journey.

How to enter this in your tax return

The method for entering the deduction for driving for business purposes with a commercial vehicle differs depending on how you submit your tax return.

Follow the directions in your accounting system. Contact the system provider if you have any questions.

Calculate the deduction for the use of a private vehicle in business activity and enter it in the card “Costs for vehicles used in business activity”. You’ll find the card under the topic “Expenses” in the business information in your tax return.
