How to change paid interest and debt
When you have a joint loan with your spouse or cohabiting partner, the loan is entered only in one of your tax returns. You can easily split the interest expenses and debt between you in the tax return. Cohabiting partners/jointly responsible borrowers must distribute both the debt and the interest on the debt according to the respective percentages that you each own.
See how you make changes in item 3.3.1. Remember to make changes in both tax returns.
Cohabiting partners must first register in item 1.3 that they have a joint loan.
You must first log in to Altinn and open your tax return for alteration/submission. You can get help with logging in here.
1 Click ‘Change’ for item ‘3.3/4.8 Interest, debt, other capital costs and deductions’.
2a If the loan is assigned to you, click on Change for item 3.3.1/4.8.1 for the loan you want to allocate. Go to point 5.
2b If you have a part of the loan transferred to you, click the arrow to bring up the overview of the items.
3 Select the appropriate item: ‘3.3.1/4.8.1 Interest and debt’ in the list.
4 Click ‘Add’.
5 Fill in the name of the lender, interest on debt and debt. Select the reason for the change in the dropdown list. When you select ‘Transferred to/from spouse/cohabitant’, new fields will be displayed for your spouse’s/cohabiting partner's Norwegian national identity number and name, which you must fill in. Click ‘OK’.
6 Check that the changes have been included, and
7 Click ‘Save/Back to the list’.
8 The change to item ‘3.3/4.8 Interest, debt, other capital costs and deductions’ will be shown in the main overview.
You can now change other items or submit your tax return by clicking ‘Check form’.
Remember that your spouse/cohabiting partner must make the corresponding changes.
