Confirmation of residence in Svalbard

The confirmation documents that your registered present address is in Svalbard. You must be registered in the Population Register for Svalbard to get the confirmation.

The confirmation documents your present address in Svalbard and includes the date when you moved to your current address. In addition, the confirmation documents the date you moved to Svalbard.

If you have had several stays in Svalbard, and want confirmation of all stays, you must order a confirmation with historical information.

You can order a confirmation on behalf of:

  • Yourself
  • Your children who are under 18 (if you do not have parental responsibility, you must document that you have a justified need for the confirmation)
  • Anyone for whom you’ve been appointed guardian
  • A client for whom you’re acting as counsel (as a lawyer)

If you need a residence confirmation for your spouse, grown-up children, parents or siblings, you must document that you have a justified need for the confirmation.

You have a justified reason when the certificate is necessary for you to be able to fulfil your legal rights or duties. When you order, you must therefore state why you need the confirmation.

A residence confirmation for Svalbard contains the following information:

  • Registered present address
  • Current name
  • National identity number/D number
  • Date of residency at the current address
  • Date you moved to Svalbard

The confirmation is issued in Norwegian and English.
