E-invoices for tax payments

All taxpayers, both private individuals and businesses, can now set up an agreement concerning e-invoices for tax payments.

E-invoices mean that the Norwegian Tax Administration will send you as a private individual a pre-completed invoice directly via your online banking service instead of in the post or via Altinn.

For now, the e-invoice agreement with the Norwegian Tax Administration will only apply to tax payments.

Set up an e-invoice agreement

The next time you pay tax, most online banks will ask you whether you wish to set up an e-invoice agreement with the Norwegian Tax Administration. If you accept this offer, an agreement will be set up and you'll receive your next invoice pre-completed from the Norwegian Tax Administration via your online bank.

If you have to pay underpaid tax and the amount is split between two invoices, you'll be given the option of entering into an agreement when you pay the first invoice, but the agreement will not be activated until both invoices have been paid.

Note that you can only enter into an e-invoice agreement on behalf of yourself. You can still pay tax for someone else (such as your spouse), but you cannot set up an e-invoice agreement.

Give general consent to continue to use eFaktura

From 15 May 2022, you must give general consent to receiving e-invoices to continue to be an eFaktura user. You do this in your online bank, and this also applies if you already have an e-invoice agreement.

If you already have given general consent to continue to use eFaktura, you’ll receive an e-invoice for tax payments without having to do anything.

Set up an e-invoice agreement even if you do not have to pay tax

  1. Log on to your online banking service and select e-invoice from the menu. E-invoices are described in detail and are easy to find using the various online banking services.
  2. Search for the Norwegian Tax Administration as provider.

Your e-invoice reference when setting up an agreement will be the first 11 digits of the KID number on your tax return.

The benefits of using e-invoices:

  • Using e-invoices is simple and efficient.
  • You do not need to enter your KID number or any other invoice information, as your e-invoice will be pre-completed.
  • You'll have a better overview and more control over your payments.
  • E-invoices are stored in your online bank, and you can determine when and from which account the invoice is paid. You can make payments from anywhere.
  • Businesses that are registered with ELMA will find their entire payment history in their accounting system.
  • Environmentally friendly alternative.
