See my case documents (right of access)

You have the right to see case documents that are related to your cases, but you must actively ask to see the documents.

This could for example be an appeal case or a decision to impose a coercive fine that regards you and that the Tax Administration is processing. As a rule, you have the right to see case documents that affect decisions in your cases.

In some cases, information that can reveal trade secrets, documents that are part of case preparations and documents that are suited to undermine the Tax Administration’s audits are exempted from your access to case documents (right of access).

How to request access to your own case documents

When we give you access to case documents (right of access), we must be certain that we provide information to the correct person. You must therefore either:

  • log in and submit a request
  • please include a case number if you have one, this will be of great help

or you may:

  • send a letter to the Tax Administration – Skatteetaten, Postboks 9200 Grønland. 0134 OSLO

You’ll get an answer from us either in your Altinn inbox or, if you’ve reserved yourself against electronic communication, to your registered postal address.

Case processing time

The Tax Administration is required to process your request of access “without undue delay”. If the case processing time is disproportionately long, we’ll send you a message where we explain why and when we expect to give you a final reply.

Confidentiality obligation relating to information about others

Access to your own case documents (right of access) can give you information about others if this information is included in the case documents that are related to you. If you receive confidential information regarding others, you cannot use the information as you like. However, you can still use the information for the purpose for which you received the information.
