The tax return comes in different formats

This year, most wage earners and pensioners who are online users will receive the new version of the tax return. The tax return on paper will also be in the new format and contains topics instead of items.

Important information

When you log in to see your tax return, you’ll automatically see the tax return you must use. There, you’ll find help and guidance irrespective of how your tax return looks.

The new format of the tax return

This year, most wage earners and pensioners will receive the new version of the tax return.

This can be found at skatteetaten.no, and looks like this:

You’ll recognise the new tax return by the Skatteetaten logo in the upper left corner after you’ve logged in.

The new tax return is divided into topics.

The old format of the tax return

Everyone will receive the new tax return, but which year will be the first with the new tax return, may vary based on your tax matters.

This can be found at altinn.no and looks like this:

You’ll recognise the tax return by the Altinn logo in the upper left corner once you’ve logged in.

In the old format, the tax return is divided into numbered items. 

  • See the list of guidance to the items in the tax return
  • If you're required to attach forms, you’ll find them in your tax return.

The tax return on paper 

If you've opted out or have not yet decided whether to become an online user, you'll be sent a tax return on paper.

From the 2021 income year, the tax return on paper will only be available in the new format that looks like the new digital tax return on skatteetaten.no and contains topics instead of items.
